Srinagar, July 1: National Conference (NC) President Farooq Abdullah on Monday hit back at Union Home Minister Amit Shah for terming Article 370 as "temporary". Farooq Abdullah said that if Article 370 of the Indian Constitution is temporary then India’s accession of Jammu and Kashmir is also temporary. Amit Shah Issues List of Top 10 Militants Active in Jammu and Kashmir.

While speaking to reporters, the National Conference president said, “If Art 370 is temporary then our accession is also temporary, when Maharaja acceded, it was temporary.” He further added that plebiscite was promised at the time of accession, but it did not take place. Abdullah stated, “Was said at that time that a plebiscite will happen & people will decide whether to go with India or Pakistan, so if that didn't happen, then how can they remove Art 370?” Article 35-A Will be Revoked by 2020 if BJP Returns to Power, Says Amit Shah Amid Tensions in Jammu & Kashmir.

On June 28, Shah asserted in the Lok Sabha that Article 370, that gives special status to Jammu and Kashmir, was a temporary provision of the Constitution. The home minister made the remark during his reply to the discussion on the extension of President's rule in Jammu and Kashmir.

Meanwhile, on Monday, the Rajya Sabha gave its nod for the extension of President's Rule in the state by six months from July 3. Shah moved a resolution for extending President's rule in the state and the amendment bill of the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Act, 2004.
