Mumbai, April 17: In the latest development in the context of Facebook data-breach scandal, the government will be looking into the responses given by its founder Mark Zuckerberg. The government is also mulling to look into the arguments put forth by the Facebook CEO during his testimony before the US House of Representatives.
As per a senior official in the Union Minister of Communications and Technology, the Central government will be examining the responses put forward by both, Facebook and Cambridge Analytica in the recent data-leak scandal that broke out last month. It will be keeping a tab on the activities and recent developments that have taken place in both United Kingdom and the United States.
Mark Zuckerberg, who testified against the US House, spread across two days, was under fire from the Senators, last week. The social-media tycoon has drawn sharp criticism from all corners, be it governments, media, internet users and even its own former workers!
There were allegations made that the social media platform has tried to influence the electorate during the elections in India. Also, there were allegations made that Cambridge Analytica had misused personal information of the users to influence electorate during the 2016 US Presidential Elections too.
Personal data of over 87 million users were allegedly compromised by Cambridge Analytica and several data analytics companies, last month, which led to a global outrage. Facebook had earlier confirmed that data of over 5.62 lakh people were affected in the data-breach scandal that broke out.
As per the IT Ministry official, the responses by the companies are being examined by the Indian government, in the context of global of developments.
