Uttar Pradesh, May 21: The Uttar Pradesh (UP) government-owned bungalows occupied by former Chief Ministers, is once again in the news. This time the buzz is about how ex-CMs have cited varying reasons to remain in those bungalows.
Mayawati, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo and former CM announced that her bungalow, 13-A, Mall Avenue is now a Kashiram Vishramalaya Sthal (Rest House). A board was put on the gate of her bungalow saying the same.
While, Akhilesh Yadav, former CM and chief of Samajwadi Party has written a letter to the UP government that he needs more time, as he is yet to find an appropriate bungalow for his residence.
BJP leader Rajnath Singh has moved to Gomatinagar, in one of his family owned bungalow's and ND Tiwari is currently taking medical treatment in one of the Delhi Hospital's and will take some time to shift.
The UP government earlier had served notices to six former CMs - Mulayam Singh Yadav, Akhilesh Yadav, Mayawati, ND Tiwari, Rajnath Singh and Kalyan Singh to vacate their occupied bungalows in 15-days, after the apex court orders.
The court in its verdict stated that the allotment of bungalows to formers as unconstitutional. While it also quashed the amendment made in section 4(3) of UP Ministers (salaries, allowances & miscellaneous provisions) Act, 2016 which allowed the formers to occupy the bungalow on their requests. The Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party government had in 2016 carried out the amended in the act.
The amendment of the act was challenged by a Lucknow-based non-profit organisation Lokprahari in the SC on which a bench of justices, Ranjan Gogoi and R Banumathi delivered the judgment.
