Hyderabad, May 23: Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) candidate Ganeshamurthi A won the Erode Lok Sabha in Tamil Nadu. The DMK candidate defeated Manimaran G of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and bagged the seat with a huge margin. The counting of votes for the Erode Lok Sabha Constituency began at 8 AM on Thursday, May 23. This is one of the 39 Parliamentary constituencies in Tamil Nadu which went to poll on April 18. This constituency has six assembly constituents, of which one is for the SC category.
The constituency number of Erode is 17 and is not reserved for any category i.e. it falls into the General Category. According to Election Commission of India (ECI) data, the total electorates in the Erode Parliamentary constituency were 1,010,079 of which 502,945 are females and 507,134 are males. In the 2019 Lok Sabha Polls, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) has fielded G Manimaran as the party’s candidate from the Erode constituency. Tamil Nadu will go to poll on April 18 in the second phase. All the 39 constituencies of the state will vote for the general elections 2019 on the same day. The counting will happen on May 23 and the results will be declared on the same day.
In the 2014 polls, Selvakumara Chinnayan S of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) had won the Erode seat by defeating Ganeshamurthi A of the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. Selvakumara had won the seat by 466,995 votes.
