Counting is underway in Mizoram.


Aizwal, December 11: The voting for 40-member legislative assembly of Mizoram was held on November 28 in a single phase. The process of counting of votes has begun today, and by the end of the day, the Election Commission will declare the results. The opposition part Mizo National Front (MNF) will try to gain the majority in the assembly, while incumbent Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla of the ruling Congress party will be eyeing third consecutive term as the CM. Mizoram Assembly Elections 2018 Results: Exit Poll Predictions, Counting Schedule, All You Need to Know About Mizoram Vidhan Sabha Polls.

In these elections, the main fight will be between the Congress and the MNF. However, the BJP will also be looking to make inroads in the state with 87 percent Christian population. A total of 1,164 polling booths were set up across the state on the voting day. This time 75 percent votes per polled in the elections. Meanwhile, various exit polls predicted the fractured mandate in the state. 1) Lunglei East (ST): The constituency of Lunglei East is a part of Mizoram’s Lunglei district and is reserved for Scheduled Tribes (ST) candidates. Joseph Lalhimpuia of the Congress won the 2008 and 2013 assembly elections. He also contested the 2018 elections on the Congress ticket. The MNF fielded Lawmawma Tochhawng against the Congress candidate, while, H Lalruata of the BJP is also in the fray. Check here for live results for Lunglei East.

2) Lunglei West (ST): Assembly Constituency of Mizoram state is currently held by Chalrosanga Ralte of the Congress. In the 2013 assembly elections, he beat Dr R Lalthangliana of the MNF. For the 2018 elections, the Congress again fielded Ralte against C Lalrinsanga of the MNF and C S Chawngchhuma of the BJP. Check here for live results for Lunglei West.

3) Lunglei South (ST): The constituency of Lunglei South is a part of Mizoram’s Lunglei district and is again reserved for Scheduled Tribes (ST) candidates. In 2013 elections, S. Laldingliana of the Congress won this constituency beating Dr K Pachhunga of the MNF. 4) Thorang (ST): Zodintluanga of the Congress currently holds the constituency. In the 2013 assembly elections, he beat Joseph Lalzawmliana of the MNF. For the 2018 elections, The Congress fielded Zodintluanga Ralte. Meanwhile, MNF’s R Rohmingliana and BJP’s Joseph Lalzawmliana are also in the fray. Check here for live results for Thorang.

5) West Tuipui (ST): The constituency of West Tuipui is a part of Mizoram’s Lunglei district.     Nihar Kanti Chakma is the sitting MLA from this constituency. In 2008 elections also he remained victorious. This time again the grand old party fielded Chakma against F Robert Hmingthansanga of the MNF and Kina Ranjan Chakma of the BJP. Check here for live results for West Tuipui.

6) Tuichawng (ST): Buddha Dhan Chakma of the Congress currently holds the constituency. In 2013 assembly elections, he beat Rasik Mohan Chakma of the MNF. This time, Buddha Dhan Chakma contested the election on the BJP ticket, while, the Congress fielded, Kali Kumar Tongchangya. In 2013, the Congress won 34 seats, while the MNF won only five seats and one seat was won by the Mizoram People’s Conference (MPC). If we talk about the vote share, the grand old party received 44.6 percent of votes, whereas the main opposition party MNF managed to bag only 28.7 percent vote share.
