Election Schedule 2018 For Meghalaya, Tripura & Nagaland: State Assembly Election Dates Announced

New Delhi, January 18: The Chief Election Commissioner of India (CEC) AK Joti on Thursday announced the polling dates for legislative assembly elections of three northeastern states -- Meghalaya, Tripura and Nagaland. In Tripura, the polling is scheduled to take place on February 28, 2017 while in Meghalaya and Nagaland, people will go to vote on February 27, 2018. The results for all the three assembly states will be out on March 3, 2018. “Polling for legislative assembly elections in Tripura to be held on 18 Feb, polling in Meghalaya & Nagaland to be held on 27 Feb; Counting for all three states on 3 March", CEC AK Joti informed at a press meet.
CEC AK Joti on Wednesday while speaking at a conference in New Delhi said that Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura all have 60 seats each and EVM and VVPAT will be used in all three states. He informed that the first level checks have been completed.
In Meghalaya, polling will be held to elect all the 60 members to the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly. The incumbent Congress government, led by Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, will try to win a re-election for the third time in a row. The tenure of present assembly, elected in March 2013, ends on March 6, 2018. In Meghalaya, there are about 17.68 lakh voters, out of which 8.93 lakh voters are females. As per reports, the election commission has set up 3,082 polling booths in the state.
In Nagaland, polling for legislative assembly election will be held to elect members of the 60 constituencies. The tenure of Nagaland assembly ends on March 13, 2018. The Democratic Alliance of Nagaland is a state level coalition of political parties of the state. In Tripura, the polling will be held to elect members of the 60 constituencies. The tenure of Tripura assembly ends on March 6, 2018. To recall, Tripura saw the implementation of VVPAT for the first time in 2017 election.
