Amaravati, April 8: Elections to the 175-member Andhra Pradesh Assembly, including Elamanchili, Eluru, Etcherla, Gajapathinagaram and Gajuwaka constituencies, are scheduled on April 11. The results of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly polls will be declared on May 23. In the 2014 Andhra Pradesh Vidhan Sabha polls, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) bagged Elamanchili, Eluru, Etcherla, Gajapathinagaram and Gajuwaka seats.
The process of filing nomination for Elamanchili, Eluru, Etcherla, Gajapathinagaram and Gajuwaka Assembly polls began from March 18. The last day for nominations was March 25. Scrutiny was done on March 26 and the last date for the withdrawal of the nominations was March 28. The ruling TDP will face a tough challenge from the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP). Notably, this is the first election that will take place after the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. Of the 175 seats, the TDP bagged 102 in the 2014 Andhra Pradesh Assembly polls. The YSRCP won 67 seats, while the BJP got four. Navodyam Party (NP) got one seat. One independent candidate also won.
