New Delhi, May 8: The Election Commission of India on Wednesday declared the polling at 168 polling stations of the Tripura West Parliamentary constituency on April as void. It announced that in all these stations, re-polls would be done in the sixth phase on May 12 from 7 am to 5 pm.

The ECI took this decision after the chief electoral officer, special observer, general observers and the returning officer submitted a report, asked by the commission. It is to be known that Tripura has two Lok Sabha seats - Tripura West and Tripura East. CPM, Congress Seek Fresh Polls for Tripura West Lok Sabha Seat; Cite Violence and Booth Capturing Incidents 

Earlier, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Congress had appealed to the apex poll conducting body for re-polls at 50% booths in the constituency and had threatened to move Supreme Court if their demands are not met.

Both the parties have alleged of large-scale rigging, booth capturing, intimidation and attacks by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party during the polls in the first phase of Lok Sabha Elections 2019. Following this, the ECI has asked the state poll authorities to send a report on this issue.
