New Delhi, September 13: The results of Delhi University Students' Union or DUSU elections will be declared today. The counting of votes for the DUSU elections results 2019 will take place at the Community Hall in Kingsway Camp. The main contest in the DUSU elections is between BJP-affiliated ABVP and Congress's students' wing NSUI. Catch live updates on the DUSU elections results here. Polling for top four posts - President, Vice Present, Secretary and Joint Secretary - took place yesterday.

The voter turnout recorded across 43-morning colleges was 39.69 percent. There are 16 candidates in the fray. The Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) fielded Akshit Dahiya for the post of DUSU president, Pradeep Tanwar for the vice president's post, Yogit Rathee for the general secretary's post and Shivangi Kherwal for the post of joint secretary. Last year, the ABVP had won three posts while the NSUI won one post. ABVP Erects Statues of VD Savarkar, Subhas Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh at Delhi University North Campus Overnight.

National Students' Union of India (NSUI) fielded Chetna Tyagi for the post of president, Ankit Bharti for the vice president's post, Ashish Lamba for the secretary's post and Abhishek Chaprana for the post of joint secretary. Damini Kain is Left-backed AISA's candidate for the DU president's post. There are only four women contesting the elections this time, out of which two are contesting independently.

In the college students unions, both the ABVP and the NSUI claimed to have won the majority. Where ABVP claimed to have won over 48 seats in 51 colleges, with their 17 panels winning the elections. "We have won majority of seats in colleges' students' union. The NSUI has been spreading lies that they have won more seats. They have even projected our winning candidates as their's," Siddharth Yadav, state ABVP secretary, told IANS.

The NSUI too alleged that the ABVP has been spreading lies and dared it to prove their claims. "I challenge them to prove any name in our list that belonged to their student wing," said NSUI state president Akshay Lakra.
