New Delhi, April 21: Ahead of the third phase of Lok Sabha elections 2019, the sale of liquor will be banned for a 48-hour period. The ban will be lifted with the conclusion of voting in the respective constituencies. Dry days are observed because of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), which is imposed for conducting fair elections. The 48-hour ban on alcohol sale kickstarted from 5 pm on Sunday and would continue till 6 pm on Tuesday.

In Phase III of the Parliamentary polls, voting will take place on April 23 for 116 constituencies, spread over 13 states and 2 Union Territories.  The polling will be conducted for all 26 constituencies in Gujarat, 20 in Kerala, 14 each in Maharashtra and Karnataka, 10 in Uttar Pradesh, seven in Chhattisgarh, six in Odisha, five each in Bihar and West Bengal, four in Assam, two in Goa, one each in Jammu and Kashmir, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu and Tripura. Among the key candidates contesting this phase include - Shashi Tharoor, Rahul Gandhi, Anto Anthony, Tushar Vellapally, Raju Shetti, Supriya Sule, Abhijit Mukherjee, Mohan Joshi and others. The polls would be conducted from 7 am to 6 pm. Voting for the third phase of Odisha Assembly Elections 2019 will also take place along with the third phase of parliamentary polls. The polling will take place on EVMs as well as VVPAT machines on all polling booths this election.
