Saidabad, April 19:  Special National Investigation Agency (NIA) Court announced verdict in the Mecca Masjid blast case on April 16, 2018 and acquitted all the five accused, however, the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen Chief Asaduddin Owaisi shared his disappointment over the verdict announced. Therefore, Owaisi has decided to knock the door of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Governor ESL Narasimhan to seek justice. Owaisi made the announcement in a public meeting held by him in Saidabad on Thursday.

Reacting to the judgement of the NIA special court, Owaisi said it was a biased investigation and NIA was not allowed to pursue the case by its political masters. "We have nothing against the Courts. But had the BJP been honest, the accused would have been punished. The NIA at the behest of the BJP deliberately went soft on the case to ensure that they would be acquitted," said Owaisi in his media statement.

Earlier in a series of tweets, he also accused BJP government and said that the NIA did not even appeal against the bail given to the accused within 90 days on BJP's  instruction.

The special court on April 16, 2018 acquitted right-wing Hindu group members in the 2007 Mecca Masjid blast case. It held that the prosecution failed to provide evidence against the accused. Nine people were killed and 58 others were injured when the explosion ripped through the mosque during Friday prayers on May 18, 2007. Two live Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) were also recovered by police and defused. Later, five more people were killed in subsequent police firing on the crowd outside the mosque.

Immediately after the blast, police had blamed Harkatul Jihad Islami and rounded up about 100 youth from different parts of the city. Several were arrested and jailed. The Central Bureau Investigation (CBI) later revealed that the blast was the carried by right-wing Hindu group.
