Digvijay Singh Reacts to Mayawati's 'BJP-RSS Agent' Remark, Says 'Tried Everything For Congress-BSP Alliance'
Digvijay Singh said he was in favour of an alliance betwee the Congress and the BSP, but it was Mayawati who didn't agree.
New Delhi, October 3: Congress leader Digvijay Singh denied Mayawati's allegation that he derailed talks for the Congress-BSP alliance in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh. Digvijay Singh said he was in favour of an alliance betwee the Congress and the BSP, but it was Mayawati who didn't agree.
"I have already made it clear that I respect Mayawati ji and has been in favour of the Congress-BSP alliance from beginning. In Chhattisgarh, there were talks for alliance but she didn't go for it. In Madhya Pradesh too, there were talks of alliance. However, she declared 22 BSP candidates," the Congress leader told news agency ANI.
Reacting to Mayawati's remark that he is an agent of the BJP and the RSS, Digvijay Singh said he has been against the two outfits. "As far as I am concerned, I had been one of the bitterest critics of Modi ji, Amit Shah ji, BJP and RSS. Rahul Gandhi is our Congress chief, we follow his directions," Singh said.
This came after Mayawati announced her decision to go solo in the upcoming Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh Assembly polls this year. However, the BSP chief maintained suspense over alliance for 2019 Lok Sabha elections. She blamed Congress for trying to wipe out the BSP by giving it few seats in major states where they were negotiating for the alliance.
She blamed Singh for spoiling the alliance. “While Congress president Rahul Gandhi and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi want a Congress-BSP alliance in the poll-bound states like Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh and in Lok Sabha elections, unfortunately, Congress party MP and former chief minister Digvijay Singh, who due to the fear of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED), does not want an alliance between the two parties,” Mayawati said.
