New Delhi, July 17: In a major surprise, senior leaders Digvijay Singh and Kamal Nath have been dropped from the newly formed Congress Working Committee (CWC) constituted by Congress Press President Rahul Gandhi on July 17. Other notable leaders who are dropped from the newly formed commitee includes Sushil Kumar Shinde, Mohan Prakash, CP Joshi and Janardan Dwivedi. The committee which is the party's highest decision-making body has a blend of young and old leaders. The committee will convene its first meeting on July 22. A total of 51 members will be included in the committee. Some will be permanent while others will be special invitees.
Independent in-charges appointed for various states will be among the permanent invitees to the working committee as ex-officio members, while the heads of five frontal organisations of the party - INTUC, Sewa Dal, Youth Congress, Mahila Congress and NSUI - will be part of the special invitees.

Rahul Gandhi formed the first CWC after becoming president of the party. Gandhi has also invited state unit presidents and Congress Legislative Party leaders from states for July 22 meeting. The committee was dissolved before the election of the Congress president. The CWC also acts as an advisory panel on all key decisions of the party.
