Kolkata, September 2: The excitement for the Dhupguri Assembly By-Elections 2023 has reached its maximum high as the constituency in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district witnesses a three-corner fight between BJP-CPI (M)-TMC against a backdrop of NDA vs INDIA alliance. The Congress has backed the candidate of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M). At the same time, Mamata Banerjee-led TMC has fielded its own candidate for the Dhupguri Assembly By-Elections 2023.

The political equations in West Bengal have baffled everyone. While the Congress and CPI (M) had a long-standing rivalry, they now seem to get along despite their rift in the Southern state of Kerala. TMC, who has been a critic of Congress, has joined the INDIA alliance but decided to go to the bypolls separately. BJP, on the other hand, will be looking to spread its legs in the state. Some political experts say the burden of old promises weighs West Bengal BJP. The remark can be backed by the example when a BJP MLA from the Darjeeling Hills staged a protest against the BJP-led Central Government last month. There seems to be a leadership crisis, and it can be observed that the BJP’s vote share has been declining in the State since the 2021 Assembly polls. Dhupguri By-Election 2023: TMC Announces Professor Nirmal Chandra Roy As Candidate for West Bengal By-Poll.

Dhupguri Assembly By-Elections 2023 Results:

As all eyes will be on the Dhupguri assembly polls, counting votes for the seven assembly by-polls, including the Dhupguri seat, will be held on September 8, declaring the results by the evening of the same day. The voting for the bypoll will take place for a single assembly seat in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district on September 5, along with six other constituencies in Kerala, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Tripura, and Uttarakhand.

Why Dhupguri By-Election 2023 Were Necessitated:

The Dhupguri By-Election 2023 was needed after its sitting MLA, Bishnu Pada Roy, died in July. The veteran BJP leader, who won the Dhugpuri seat in the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, passed away aged 61. So, while the BJP will seek to hold on to the seat, the TMC will be looking to wrest it from its bitter rival. Bishnu Pada Ray Dies of Heart Attack in West Bengal: BJP MLA From Dhupguri Suffers Cardiac Arrest, Passes Away at Kolkata Hospital.

Candidates for Dhupguri By-Election 2023:

The Dhupguri bypolls will be a three-cornered fight between the state’s ruling Trinamool Congress, BJP and CPI(M). The Congress has not fielded a candidate but will support CPI(M) candidate Ishwar Chandra Roy. Trinamool Congress has fielded Nirmal Chandra Roy, a professor from the Rajbanshi community. The two members of the INDIA alliance will face Tapasi Roy, the widow of CRPF jawan Jagannath Roy, a BJP candidate.

The Union Home Ministry on Thursday said it will send 15 more companies of central armed police forces (CAPF) for the by-election to the Dhupguri Assembly constituency in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district as a precautionary measure. The state has witnessed multiple incidents of poll violence in recent times. The official statement of the Home Ministry stated that the forces will be reaching Dhupguri today.
