The results of the Dhenkanal Lok Sabha Constituency will be declared today. The counting of votes began in the Parliamentary seat in Odisha at 8 am on Thursday, May 23. Voting for the Dhenkanal seat took place in the third phase of Lok Sabha Elections 2019. Dhenkanal is one of the 21 Lok Sabha constituencies of Odisha. Before delimitation in 2008, legislative assembly segments which constituted this parliamentary constituency were: Birmaharajpur, Athmallik, Angul, Hindol, Dhenkanal, Gondia and Kamakhyanagar. Following the delimitation, it comprises of seven assembly seats - Dhenkanal, Parjanga Kamakshyanaga, Hindol, Angul, Talcher and Pallahara. The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) fielded Mahesh Sahoo, while the Congress gave the ticket to Raja Kamakhya Prasad Singh Deo from Dhenkanal. Whereas, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) fielded sitting MP Rudra Narayan Pany from here. The last date of filing nominations for the seat was April 4. The scrutiny of nominations papers took place on April 5. In 2014 elections, BJD candidate Tathagat Satapathy defeated BJP's  Rudra Narayan Pany by a margin of 1,37,340 votes. While, Congress' sitting Madhab Sardar came at the third spot. Before 2014, Satapathy had also won the elections in 2009, 2004 and 1998.

On March 10, the Election Commission of India announced dates for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The elections will take place in seven phases, and the results will be declared on May 23. Along with Lok Sabha elections, the voting for Odisha Assembly Elections 2019 will also take place on the same date.
