Mumbai, December 14: Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday attacked Shiv Sena and questioned Uddhav Thackeray's party's soft approach on the insult on Savarkar by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Apart from this, Fadnavis also slammed Gandhi for making controversial statement on Savarkar and called his comments 'shameful'.
Speaking on the Savarklar row, the BJP leader said, as news agency ANI quotes, "The kind of people Shiv Sena has to deal with to remain in power is very clear. Maharashtra & country will never tolerate the insult to Savarkar ji. Earlier Shiv Sena used to react very sharply, why have they gone soft now?" 'Shiv Sena Respects Mahatma Gandhi and Pandit Nehru, Please Don't Insult Veer Savarkar': Sanjay Raut Warns Ally Congress.
Fadnavis called Gandhi's statement on Savarkar as 'Shameful'. He said, "Rahul Gandhi's statement is shameful, maybe he does not know about Savarkar ji. He faced torture for 12 years in the cells of Andaman jail, Rahul Gandhi cannot do it for even 12 hours. Just putting Gandhi in your name doesn't make you a Gandhi."
Here the ANI tweet:
Earlier, making controversial comment on Savarkar, Rahul Gandhi had said in 'Bharat Bachao' rally, "I was told in Parliament by BJP yesterday 'Rahul ji, you gave a speech. Apologise for that.' I was told to apologise for something which is right. My name is not Rahul Savarkar. My name is Rahul Gandhi. I will never apologise for truth."
It is to be known that the row over apologising began after Gandhi jabbed Savarkar by stating that he is not amongst whose who backtrack from truth or apologise under undue pressure. His remarks, which took a potshot against Savarkar, were directed against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which has sought his apology for "Rape in India" remark.
