Rampur, March 28: Samajwadi Party leader Firoz Khan on Thursday passed sexist and derogatory comment against the veteran actress Jaya Prada who will be contesting as the Bharatiya Janata Party's candidate from the Rampur Parliamentary seat against the senior SP leader Azam Khan. For "Rampur ki shaamein rangeen hogi" comment, National Commission for Women (NCW) issued a notice to Khan over his remark on BJP Rampur candidate Jaya Prada. Jaya Prada Joins BJP at Party Headquarters in Delhi, to Contest 2019 Lok Sabha Polls From Rampur.

On being asked about the election-battle for the Rampur seat, Firoz Khan said, "Rampur ki shaamein rangeen ho jaayengi ab jab chunavi mahual chalega (Rampur's evenings will turn colourful in this election season)." This misogynistic statement from the leader was criticised by people on social media as extremely demeaning. Shambhulal Regar, Who Hacked Man to Death on Camera, 'Set to Contest' From Rampur Against Azam Khan and Jaya Prada in 2019 Lok Sabha Elections.

Khan continued his shocking and objectionable tirade and targeted another saffron party leader Sanghamitra Maurya. "Ab koi apne ko gundi batade koi naachne ka kaam kare, woh unka apna pesha hai (some call herself a goon, some are into dancing, it's their money anyway)," he said. Interestingly, Maurya in a public rally earlier said party workers that not to be afraid of as she will protect them by becoming a bigger "gundi."

Jaya Prada made her political debut with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in 1994 but later quit it to join Samajwadi Party. The actor-turned-politician had represented Rampur constituency twice in 2004 and 2009. After she and Amar Singh were expelled from the party in 2010, she contested 2014 general elections from Bijnor on Rashtriya Lok Dal ticket, but lost.
