New Delhi, December 23: Former Union Minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram took a dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as trends indicated that the BJP is set to lose Jharkhand to the JMM-Congress-RJD combine. Chidambaram tweeted on Monday, the day of results, and mentioned in his tweet how the BJP was "dented" in Haryana, "denied" in Maharashtra and "defeated" in Jharkhand in the year 2019. Chidambaram's tweet also urged the Opposition parties to come together and "rally" around the Congress party to save the Constitution. Chidambaram called the performance of BJP in these three states as "the story of the BJP in 2019." Despite the spectacular victory in the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, the BJP has been unable to replicate the performance in states. The incumbent BJP government failed to get a majority on its own in Haryana and had to take the support of JMM to form government in the state. In Maharashtra, BJP emerged as the singlest largest party but could not form the government in the state after it fell out with its coalition partner, the Shiv Sena. In Jharkhand, the Raghubar Das led BJP is set to lose the state as it is trailing behind the JMM-Congress-RJD combine by huge margin and seats.
