New Delhi, Aug 29: The perception that Delhi MLAs are least corrupt has increased significantly over the years, found a survey released by an NGO on Tuesday. According to the ‘Delhi MLA Report Card’ released by Praja Foundation, 85.7 per cent of the respondents perceives Delhi MLAs to be the least corrupt. However, the overall performance of legislator in the national capital went down from 57.6 per cent last year to 55.9 per cent in 2017.

“From 67.8 per cent in 2016 to 60.9 per cent in 2017 and 85.7 per cent in 2018, the perception that city’s MLAs are least corrupt has increased over the years,” Milind Mhaske of Praja Foundation was quoted as saying. The survey also ranked Mohinder Goyal (AAP), Jagdish Pradhan (BJP) and Rajesh Gupta (AAP) among top-performing MLAs. Two AAP legislators — Devinder Kumar Sehrawat and Parmila Tokas —did not raise a single issue, the survey stated. Khan, however, called the survey bogus and said he did a lot of work in his constituency. The MLAs were ranked based on factors such as attendance in the House, number and quality of issues raised during debates, deployment of the MLA area development fund, police cases registered against them, and public perception.

The survey also pointed out that the number of MLAs with criminal cases was increasing since the last assembly elections in 2015. It said that 32 MLAs had criminal records against them as of 31 December 2017. Only nine candidates had criminal cases against them in 2015. The number of complaints of no water supply rose from 34,554 in 2015 to 52,100 in 2017, stated the survey.

Founder of the NGO Nital Mehta said the AAP government failed students in class IX and XI to get desired results in CBSE exams in Class X and Class XII. "The performance of students in 2016-2017 CBSE exams in Class X and Class XII was only possible because nearly 43 per cent of the students in Class IX and 26 per cent of Class XI students failed in 2015-16 in state government schools to achieve these results," Mehta reportedly said.

The survey also said complaints regarding no water supply showed a sharp rise from 34,554 in 2015 to 52,100 in 2017. 28,624 people in the national capital, excluding Delhi Cantonment and New Delhi Municipal Council areas, were surveyed. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, his deputy Manish Sisodia, Assembly speaker, deputy speaker and ministers were not rabked in the survey.
