New Delhi, April 26: Famous Punjabi singer Daler Mehndi on Friday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the midst of the Lok Sabha elections. Mehndi joined the party in the presence of party North West Delhi candidate Hans Raj Hans and Union Minister Vijay Goel. The Court of Judicial Magistrate Nidhi Saini, held Mehndi guilty under section 420 (Cheating) and 120 (B) of the Indian Penal Code (Conspiracy). He was granted bail on the same day. In 2003, the Patiala police had booked Daler Mehndi and his brother Shamsher Mehndi who died in 2017. Two other persons were also booked in connection with the case on the basis of the complaint filed by Bakshish Singh, a resident of Balbera village. According to reports, in 1998 and 1999, the Mehndi brothers had taken two performance groups to the US, and they illegally dropped off 10 group members there. The Patiala Police raided the offices of Mehndi at Connaught Place in New Delhi and seized documents.

Delhi is going for polls the sixth phase on May 12. The result on Lok Sabha Elections 2019 will be declared on May 23. All the seven seats of Delhi will witness a triangular contest between the BJP, the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party.
