Bhopal, December 11: The results of assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh will be declared today. Counting of votes for 230 seats of Madhya Pradesh assembly that went to polls on November 28, including Dabra, Sewda, Bhander, Datia, Karera and Pohari assembly seats, will begin at 8 am. The Dabra assembly seat witnessed an electoral fight between incumbent MLA of Congress Imarti Devi Suman and her arch-rival, BJP's Kaptan Singh Sahsari. In Sewda, BJP replaced its sitting legislator Pradeep Agarwal with Radhelal Baghel, who faced a challenge from Congress candidate Ghanshyam Singh. The BJP also fielded a fresh face in Bhander. It nominated Rajni Prajapati against Congress candidate Raksha Santram Saroniya. The Bhander assembly seat was previously won by BJP's Ghanshyam Pironiya.
In Datia, BJP exuded confidence in its sitting legislator Narottam Mishra. The Congress fielded Rajendra Bharti to grab the seat. In Karera, the Congress replaced its sitting MLA Shakuntala Khatik with Jaswant Jatav who was challenged by BJP nominee Rajkumar Khatik. The Pohari seat witnessed an electoral fight between BJP's Prahlad Bharti and Congress candidate Suresh Rathkheda. The seat was previously held by Bharti.
While the BJP contested all 230 seats, the Congress fielded candidates in 229 seats leaving one seat, Jatara in Tikamgarh district, for Sharad Yadav-led LJD. BSP contested in 227 seats and SP fielded candidates in 51 constituencies. In 2013, the BJP won 165 seats, the Congress 58, BSP four and Independents won three seats.
