Cuttack is one of the 21 Lok Sabha constituencies of Odisha. The voting for the parliamentary polls 2019 on this seat will take place in the third phase on April 23. Before delimitation in 2008, legislative assembly segments which constituted this parliamentary constituency were: Salepur, Cuttack Sadar, Cuttack City, Tangi-Choudwar, Banki, Athagarh and Baramba. Following the delimitation, it comprises of seven assembly seats - Baramba, Banki, Athagarh, Barabati-Cuttack, Choudwar-Cuttack, Cuttack Sadar and Khandapada. The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has fielded Pramod Kumar Mallick, while the Congress has given a ticket to Panchanan Kanungo from Cuttak. Whereas, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded former CRPF DG Prakash Mishra from here. The last date of filing nominations for the seat was April 4. The scrutiny of nominations papers took place on April 5. In 2014 elections, BJD candidate Bhartruhari Mahtab, defeated Congress'  Aparajita Mohanty by a massive margin of over three lakh votes. While, BJP's sitting Samir Dey came at the third spot. Cuttak is a stronghold of the BJD. Mahtab had won this seat continuously for five times since 1998.

On March 10, the Election Commission of India announced dates for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The elections will take place in seven phases, and the results will be declared on May 23. Along with Lok Sabha elections, Odisha is also going for assembly polls. The voting for the Odisha assembly will take place in four phases along with the Lok Sabha elections.
