CPM, DMK Announce Alliance in Tamil Nadu For Forthcoming Elections After Sitaram Yechury Meets MK Stalin
After meeting Stalin, Yechury said the CPM and DMK will contest together in the forthcoming elections.
Chennai, November 13: CPI-M general secretary Sitaram Yechury on Tuesday met DMK president MK Stalin at the latter's residence in residence in Tamil Nadu's Chennai. The meeting comes days after Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu met Stalin in a bid to forge a multi-party coalition mainly against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
After meeting Stalin, Yechury said the CPM and DMK will contest together in the forthcoming elections. "We have decided today that in Tamil Nadu we will be with the DMK in the forthcoming elections. We are together on the issue of saving the unity, integrity and harmony of the people of India and the country's constitutional institutions," the CPM leader told reporters. "Had a good meeting with @SitaramYechury. We discussed in detail about the alliance in order to defeat the BJP government at the Centre in the 2019 General Elections," Stalin tweeted.
