Corporate Tax Cut: Rahul Gandhi Takes Dig at PM Modi’s 'Howdy, Modi' Event After Nirmala Sitharaman's Announcement
Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Friday reacting to the Centre’s decision to cut corporate tax on domestic companies, took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi “Howdy, Modi” event which is scheduled to take place in Texas on September 22.
New Delhi, September 20: Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi slammed the Centre's decision to slash corporate tax on domestic companies on Friday. Reacting to the Central government's decision, Gandhi, took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's “Howdy, Modi” event. Gandhi in his tweet also called PM Modi’s event a “jamboree”. Referring to the estimated loss to the government exchequer, the Congress leader called the “Howdy, Modi” as the most expensive event of the world. Gandhi tweeted, “Amazing what PM is ready to do for a stock market bump during his #HowdyIndianEconomy jamboree. At + 1.4 Lakh Crore Rs. the Houston event is the world's most expensive event, ever! The former Congress president’s dig came hours after Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced to slash corporate tax rates giving big relief tom domestic companies. The domestic corporate tax has been slashed to an effective 25.17 per cent, inclusive of all surcharges and cess. The move would cost the exchequer Rs 1.45 lakh crore.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump will join Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the mega meet in Houston, "Howdy, Modi!". The event will be a significant boost to India-US ties, as it would be the first time that these two world leaders will be addressing a joint rally. The event will be held at the sprawling NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.
