Considering Renaming Ahmedabad as Karnavati, Says Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani

Rupani said the government is mulling all legal options to rechristen Ahmedabad as Karnavati.

Gandhinagar, November 8: Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Thursday confirmed that the state government was considering renaming Ahmedabad as Karnavati. Speaking to reporters, Rupani said the government is mulling all legal options to rechristen Ahmedabad as Karnavati, adding that soon a decision would be taken in this regard.

"We are contemplating changing the name of Ahmedabad to Karnavati, the talks of which have been going on since a long time. Concrete steps will be taken after looking at it from legal and all other angles. We will think about it in the time to come," the chief minister said. Earlier, his deputy Nitin Patel echoed similar views on changing the name of Ahmedabad city. After Allahabad, Yogi Adityanath Administration in UP to Rename Sultanpur as Kushbhavanpur.

"Since a long time, there has been a demand to change the name of Ahmedabad and name it to Karnavati. If we get to support people to support the legal process we are ready to change the name of the city. People of Ahmedabad like the name Karnavati. Whenever the time is appropriate we will change the name," Patel told news agency ANI.

He also welcomed Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's move to rename Faizabad as Ayodhya. "Seeing Uttar Pradesh people's sentiments. Uttar Pradesh government and Yogi Adityanath changed the name of Faizabad to Ayodhya. We congratulate citizens and the state government," the deputy chief minister said.

The Uttar Pradesh government recently also changed the name of Allahabad to Prayagraj saying the name holds great significance to India. The Mughalsarai Railway Station was also renamed as Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Junction earlier in the year.
