New Delhi, August 4: Amid the ongoing leadership crisis in Congress, the Congress Working Committee (CWC), party's highest decision making body, will meet on August 10 in New Delhi to brainstorm on names who can succeed Congress President Rahul Gandhi. The meeting comes in the wake of several top party leaders including Shashi Tharoor and Karan Singh voicing concern over "lack of clarity" on the leadership issue ever since Gandhi announced his resignation at a CWC meet on May 25 after the Lok Sabha election debacle. The party has also seen a number of defections from leaders from Karnataka and Maharashtra to the latest being that of Rajya Sabha MP Sajay Sinh. Several leaders pointed out the indecision and confusion within the rank and file of the party as their reason for quitting.
“It has been decided to hold the next Congress Working Committee Meeting on Saturday, 10th of August, 11 AM at AICC,” Congress general secretary organisation K C Venugopal tweeted. The meeting would be the first since Gandhi had announced his decision to quit as party chief.
Earlier, the CWC had rejected Gandhi's resignation. However, he made it clear that he will not continue as president of the party and said that a person from outside the family must lead the party, effectively closing the doors for Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as well.
