Congress Video on Twitter Accuses RSS of Prompting PM Modi to Stall Anti-Cervical Cancer Vaccination; Swadeshi Jagran Manch Calls Tweet 'Irresponsible'
Swadeshi Jagran Manch, an affiliate of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), has condemned an animation posted by the Indian National Congress on its Twitter handle accusing the Sangh of prompting Prime Minister Narendra Modi of stopping the introduction of anti-cervical cancer vaccination in India.
Mumbai, June 12: Swadeshi Jagran Manch (SJM), an affiliate of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), has condemned an animation posted by the Indian National Congress on its Twitter handle accusing the Sangh of prompting Prime Minister Narendra Modi of stopping the introduction of anti-cervical cancer vaccination in India. The SJM called the video "irresponsible" and also accused the Congress of backing certain pharmaceutical lobbyists.
"An irresponsible animation pushed from the official handle of the Congress. The entire animation was based on falsehood," SJM co-convener Ashwani Mahajan said in a statement. The Congress is backing certain pharmaceutical lobbyists. And the party is ignorant of the observations documented by its own MPs in the standing committee of parliament in 2007, where they also opposed the introduction of this drug in the country, he said.
Mahajan clarified that on the basis of scientific researches, the SJM wrote to the prime minister and sought his intervention. "Modi not only intervened, but stopped the introduction of this vaccine," he added.
Congress Video Against RSS
On June 7, the Congress posted a video levelling multiple allegations against the RSS. The video was titled 'RSS for Dummies'. The video has got about 1.7k retweets and 3.5k likes on Twitter.
This comes at a time when Congress President Rahul Gandhi has been charged with defamation by a Bhiwandi court. The case against Rahul Gandhi was filed by RSS activist Rajesh Kunte. In a rally in Mumbai region on March 16, 2014, the Congress chief had accused the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh of plotting the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi.
