India, however, rejected the United Nations report on “human rights situation in Kashmir” calling it ” fallacious, tendentious and motivated,” the External Affairs Ministry said in a statement.
New Delhi, June 14: The Congress on Thursday supported the Narendra Modi government's stand on UN Human Rights Report and said that Jammu & Kashmir is an integral and inseparable part of India. The UN report drew a strong reaction from India which called it 'overtly prejudiced'. It must be noted that this is for the first time the UNHRC has issued a report on the alleged human rights violations in Kashmir and PoK.
On Thursday, the United Nations released a report on alleged human rights violations in both "Indian-administered and Pakistan-administered Kashmir". The UN had also sought an international inquiry into these abuses. India, however, rejected the United Nations report on “human rights situation in Kashmir” calling it ” fallacious, tendentious and motivated,” the External Affairs Ministry said in a statement.
Congress spokesman Randeep Singh Surjewala on Thursday took to microblogging site Twitter and said that the Congress party has rejected the UN Human Rights Report that is an attempt to hurt the nation's sovereignty. "We reject UN Human Rights Report as a prejudiced attempt by vested interests to hurt India's Sovereignty & National Interests. Congress party supports the Govt's stand-in dismissing the report", he said in a tweet.
According to a report by PTI, the UN report said, "the people on both sides of the Line of Control have been detrimentally impacted and suffer from limitations or denial of a range of human rights." In its report, the UN also asked Pakistan to end its misuse of anti-terror legislation to persecute peaceful activists and quash dissent.
The report by the global human rights watch body also sought to repeal the Armed Forces (Jammu and Kashmir) Special Powers Act, 1990 "urgently" and also immediately remove the requirement for prior central government permission to prosecute security forces personnel accused of human rights violations in civilian courts.
