Goa: Congress Stakes Claim to Form Govt, Advises Governor Not to ‘Bring Goa Under President’s Rule’
The leader of Opposition Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar wrote to Goa Governor Mridula Sinha staking claim to that Congress wants to form the government.
Panaji, March 16: Congress on Saturday staked claim to form the government in Goa and wrote to the Governor Mridula Sinha, requesting her to allow the ‘single-largest’ party to prove its strength in the August House. Along with the request, Leader of Opposition Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar stated, ‘any attempt to bring Goa under President’s rule will be illegal and will be challenged’.
In a letter written to the state Governor Mridula Sinha, Kavlekar said, “Consequent upon the sad demise of Francis D'Souza (BJP MLA), it is humbly submitted that the incumbent BJP led state government under the leadership of Shri Manohar Parrikar which has long lost the trust of the people has also lost the strength of the House. Also, we anticipate that the number of the BJP may further dwindle thus not allowing such a party in the minority to continue even for a moment.” Manohar Parrikar Health Update: Goa Chief Minister Condition Stable, Says Former BJP MLA.
Adding more, he wrote, “It is therefore incumbent upon you to dismiss the State Government led by the BJP and ensure the Indian National Congress Party which is the single largest party in the august house and is presently enjoying the majority be called to form government. “
However, with request there was a hidden message – act constitutionally. Kavlekar wrote, “Kindly note that any action in violation of the Constitutional mandate to invite the single largest party to form the Government and any attempt made to bring the State under President's rule will be undemocratic and illegal and will be challenged, as deemed fit.”
