New Delhi, July 30: Senior Congress leader Sanjay Sinh, along with his wife Ameeta Sinh, announced on Tuesday their decision to exit the party. The couple said they would be joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), as the "entire nation" is backing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of "Sabka Saath Sabka Vishwaas".
Sinh, considered to hold clout in Amethi region, is the sitting Congress MP in Rajya Sabha from Assam. In the recently contested Lok Sabha elections, he lost from Uttar Pradesh's Sultanpur constituency to BJP's Maneka Gandhi. Shashi Tharoor Calls for Polls to Elect Congress President
Sinh's wife Ameeta Singh has served as a multi-term legislator in UP assembly from the Amethi seat. She blamed the party's leadership crisis, along with lack of clarity on their future roadmap, as the reason behind her quitting.
"Congress is still in the past, unaware of the future. Today, the country is with Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi...I will join BJP tomorrow. I Have resigned from the (Congress) party as well as my membership of Rajya Sabha," Sinh said.
Sinh, a member of the erstwhile Amethi royal family, is reported to be contemplating his decision to quit ever since Rahul Gandhi lost the coveted constituency to BJP leader and Union Minister Smriti Irani.
