New Delhi, April 29: The Congress on Monday moved the Supreme Court seeking an urgent hearing into the alleged inaction adopted by the Election Commission on the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) violation charges levelled against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah. The hearing will be held tomorrow.

The petition has been filed by Congress MP Sushmita Dev, asking the apex court to intervene in the matter and issue necessary directions to EC to initiate probe into the poll code violation charges against the top two BJP leaders. PM Modi Violated Poll Code With 'Roadshow' in Ahmedabad?

Sushmita Dev Files Plea Before SC:

Dev has asked the Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi to allow an urgent hearing into the matter, claiming that the EC has observed a questionable "silence" over the spree of "verifiable evidence" of MCC violation submitted by the Congress.

The party has accused Shah and Modi of violating the poll code on numerous occasions by allegedly stoking communal passions and referring to the armed forces while reaching out to the voters.

The Prime Minister has also been charged by the Congress of openly flouting the norm which prevents all form of electioneering in poll-bound constituencies for a 48-hour period preceding the end of voting. Modi had travelled in an open-jeep to cast his vote in Ahmedabad on April 23. The Congress has called his journey to the polling booth a "mini-roadshow".
