New Delhi, April 2: The Congress party on Tuesday released its manifesto for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. In its manifesto, released by party chief Rahul Gandhi, the Congress said 'we will deliver'. The occasion was termed as 'India's New Tryst With Destiny' by the Congress, a clear reference to India's first prime minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru's famous speech after the country achieved independence in on August 15, 1947.

Addressing a large contingent of Congress leaders and workers, Rahul Gandhi said the manifesto focuses on NYAY scheme. Attacking the Prime Minister, Gandhi said: "Narendra Modi promised Rs 15 lakh but it was a lie. We have come with NYAY scheme and will credit Rs 72,000 each year in accounts of poor." The Congress President promised to fill all vacant jobs in government by 2020. He also said loan default by farmers won't be treated as a criminal offence but civil offence if the Congress is voted to power.

Speaking at the event, senior Congress leader P Chidambaram said the content of the manifesto reflects the voice of millions of Indians. Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh said the Congress manifesto was made after consultation with several people from different walks of life. Modi Govt Reneged on Its 2014 Poll Promises, Congress Won't: Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot.

Earlier, Rahul Gandhi said the Congress's manifesto will reflect the people’s voice and not just one man’s view, while making a veiled attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said the manifesto will lay major thrust on jobs creation, addressing agrarian distress and strengthening the education and health sectors besides charting a roadmap to boost economic growth.

Congress had initiated a consultation process across the country and many of its top leaders had interacted with a host of people from different sections to seek their views on their aspirations from the party. The party’s manifesto committee was headed by Chidambaram.
