Bengaluru, December 18: Karnataka Congress leader and former minister UT Khader, made a controversial comment on Tuesday and said that the state will be "blown up into cinders" if the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) is implemented in Karnataka. The minister made the remark while speaking at an event on Tuesday, December 17. A day before this event, Khader had also criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for the Citizenship Amendment Act and said that "Modi and Amit Shah should themselves submit documents to prove they are Indians." Khader also said that he or anybody should not fill a form to prove they are Indians, reported Mangalorean.com. The cententious Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) 2019 was challenged in the Supreme Court as close to 60 petitions were filed by various parties. The Supreme Court on Wednesday, hearing the petitions, served notice to Centre over the Citizenship Amendment Act. However, the top court refused to put a stop to the act or stay the implementation of the CAA, as demanded in several petitions. The next hearing is on January 22, 2020, said the Supreme Court.

The Citizenship law protests, which first gripped the Northeast region under tensions, has now ended up stoking unrest in the national capital. Delhi faced the second round of violence over the citizenship law on Tuesday, with protesters setting up a police picket ablaze in Seelampur area of East Delhi. As many as 21 people and over 13 cops were injured in the clashes that took place.
