Meerut, April 24: Senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid stirred a controversy on Monday by saying that the Congress has blood of Muslims on its hands. Khurshid was answering a query raised by a former student of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) highlighting riots against Muslim community during congress rule and Babri Masjid Demolition. The senior congress leader made a shocking admission that party had blood of Muslims on its hands and we should learn from the mistakes of the past.

A former AMU student and activist, Amir Mintoee, asked Khurshid about the first amendment in AMU Act was in 1948 and the Presidential order in 1950. He also asked for the leader’s view on the massacre of Muslims in Hasanpura, Maliana, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Moradabad, Bhagalpur and Aligarh, and the opening of the gates of Babri Masjid, placing idols inside and then the demolition of Babri Masjid during the period Narasimha Rao-led Congress government was in power.

Responding to the query, Khurshid said: “There is blood on our hands. I am also a part of the Congress so in other words, we have blood on our hands, and that is why you are telling me that we should not protect you if someone attacks you. I am telling you. We are ready to show the blood on our hands so that you realise that you too should not stain your hands with blood”

He further suggested that one should learn from Congress’ mistakes of the past, He said, “learn something from our history and understand, don’t meet the same destiny. You should not create such situation for yourself where if you visit the Aligarh University after 10 years and you find no one like you to ask questions.”

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament (MP) Subramanian Swamy criticised khurshid’s statement.  Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) ideologue and Delhi University professor Rakesh Sinha also condemned Khurshid’s admission and attacked the Congress of doing appeasement politics.
