Mumbai, October 14: Nitin Raut, Working President, Maharashtra Congress on Monday hit out at Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar over his remarks on Sonia Gandhi and said Haryana CM isn't Khattar but a 'khacchar' (donkey). Raut's comment comes a day after Khattar made an offensive statement on Congress President Sonia Gandhi during an election rally on Sunday. During his address at the election campaign in Haryana's Sonipat, Khattar dismissed Sonia Gandhi's return as Congress chief and criticized the Congress saying despite looking out for national president for three months, Sonia Gandhi was made the party chief again.
Khattar went on to say that after the defeat in the Lok Sabha election, Rahul Gandhi stepped down from the post of the party president and had said the new Congress chief would not be from the Gandhi family. "It was like khoda pahaad, nikli chuhiya. (like digging up a mountain to find a mouse)," Khattar added.

The Congress condemned Khattar's remark and demanded an apology from him. The party took to Twitter and said the statement made by the BJP's Chief Minister is not only cheap and objectionable, it also shows the anti-women character of the BJP. "We condemn Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar's remark and demand an immediate apology from him," the Congress tweeted in Hindi.
The incident comes just weeks ahead of Assembly elections in Haryana. The 90-member Assembly will go to the polls on October 21, while the results will be declared on October 24.
