Congress Demands Election Commission to Probe 'Duplication of Voters' in Madhya Pradesh, Charges BJP Govt of Fudging Electoral Roll

'This is not administrative irresponsibility, but this is administrative misuse,' Scindia said, adding that the discrepancy was observed by the party since the Kolaras and Mungaoli bypolls earlier this year.

Bhopal, June 3: Congress has moved the Election Commission seeking a probe into the 'duplicate voter entries' made in the electoral roll of Madhya Pradesh. The party's election campaign head in Madhya Pradesh, Jyotiraditya Scindia, along with Congress MP in-charge Kamal Nath approached the EC with 'evidence' of 60 lakh duplicate entries made in state's electoral roll.

Scindia, while speaking to reporters, said the ruling BJP is hand-in-glove with the regional electoral officers. He blamed the Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led government in the state of "deliberately fudging the electoral roll" in a bid to rig the upcoming elections.

"This has been done by the BJP. How is it possible that population increased by 24 per cent in 10 years but number of voters increased by 40 per cent? We scrutinised the list in all constituencies, 1 voter is registered in 26 lists, there are similar cases in other places too," Scindia was reported as saying by news agency ANI.

"This is not administrative irresponsibility, but this is administrative misuse," he said, adding that the discrepancy was observed by the party since the Kolaras and Mungaoli bypolls earlier this year.

In the survey conducted by the Congress over the past three months across 101 constituencies, the party found 24,65,000 fake voters. "Meanwhile, in 91 other constituencies, we found 27 lakh such voters who had names, address and pictures on multiple polling booths,” Scindia added.

Scindia recalled that the last election was won by the BJP with a vote-share difference of nine per cent, which amounted to nearly 35 lakh voters. "If the duplicate entries are set aside, then the results would had been different," he claimed.

Kamal Nath said the EC officials have assured that the concerns raised by the party would be looked into, while issuing a fresh electoral list by July this year. The state is schedule to go for assembly polls in November-December.
