Congress, AIMIM, CPM to Support TDP-YSR's No-Confidence Motion Against Narendra Modi Govt
A no-confidence motion requires the support of at least 50 MPs for being tabled in the Lok Sabha.
New Delhi, Mar 16: Three political parties in the Opposition camp have confirmed their support to the no-confidence motion against the Narendra Modi government, which will be moved by the Telugu Desam Party and the YSR Congress on Monday.
The Congress, with 48 MPs, along with the AIMIM (1) and CPM (9) will support the no-trust vote, which requires the support of at least 50 lawmakers before being tabled in the House.
"BJP has now become Break Janata Party. They have done massive injustice to the people of Andhra Pradesh. Our no-confidence motion is the first step towards rooting them out from the nation," said TDP MP Thota Narasimham.
The Congress, which has remained an arch-rival of TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu since the bifurcation of Andhra in 2014, said all its lawmakers would be supporting the no-confidence motion as the Centre has meted out an "step-motherly treatment" towards the state.
"We have been supporting Special Category Status for AP since the beginning. We want that people of Andhra to get justice," said Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge.
CPI(M) also backed the TDP-YSR no-trust vote, accusing the central government "betraying" the people of Andhra by not keeping its promise of according special status to the state.
AIMIM's lone MP Asaduddin Owaisi said his party would be supporting the no-trust vote as the BJP has not only failed to adhere with State Reorganisation Act, but also failed to create employment opportunities for the youth. "They have also perpetrated injustice against Muslims," he said.
