The poll pitch has escalated in Madhya Pradesh with barely 24 days remaining for the state to go to polls. The high-stake contest is stacked up between the ruling BJP and the prime Opposition Congress, with the opinion polls so far putting weight behind the latter.

The pre-election surveys have predicted the Congress to emerge winner on 120-130 seats -- significantly above the halfway majority-mark of 115. The BJP, which is facing 15 years of anti-incumbency, is likely to be restricted between 100-110, the opinion polls claimed.

Along with Madhya Pradesh, four other states - Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Telangana and Mizoram - are also going to polls. The results will be declared by the Election Commission on December 11.

In MP, the polls will be fought on all 230 seats in a single-phase. While the notification has been issued, the last date for filing nominations is Friday, November 9. The candidatures will be scrutinised by the polling body on November 12.
