Delhi, December 18: Amid the ongoing Anti-CAA protests, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday said that the Citizenship Amendment Act should be taken back by the Central government. The Aam Aadmi Party president also questioned the timing of citizenship law when the country's economy is in the state of depression. After President Ram Nath Kovind signed off Citizenship Act last week, widespread protests have taken place, especially in the northeast, Delhi and West Bengal. Speaking at the News18 India Chaupal, Kejriwal said, "Citizenship act is a dangerous law. I suggest the Citizenship Amendment Act should be taken back. Entire India is burning over Citizenship Amendment Act. Nation doesn't need this act."

Questioning the Citizenship Act, Delhi Chief Minister said, "Those who come from outside the country will be provided documents by our government but India's citizens who do not have documents will have to go away from the country? Why was this kind of law needed? There are so many other issues that need attention.”
The CAA seeks to give Indian nationality to six communities- Hindus, Sikh, Jain, Christian, Parsi and Buddhist- from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh who had come to India till December 14, 2014, and faced religious prosecution.
The opposition parties had objected to its nature and described it "against the Muslim community", which the Central government rejected saying it does not affect the Muslim community residing in the country.
