The counting of votes for the state's 230 assembly seats scheduled to begin at 8 am. The fate of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Chouhan's bid for his fourth term in office will be known on Tuesday.

Bhopal, December 11: The results for the assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh will be announced on Tuesday. The counting of votes for 230 seats of Madhya Pradesh assembly, including Chitrangi, Singrauli, Devsar, Dhauhani, Beohari, Jaisinghnagar began at 8 am. In Madhya Pradesh, the General Election in 2009 marked the fifth consecutive victory for the BJP, who won 16 seats, followed by the INC at 12, and the BSP at one seat. Even this year, stakes are high for the ruling BJP to come into power in the state. MP Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, in office since 2005, is seeking re-election from Budhni in Sehore district. In Chitrangi (ST), the BJP has fielded Amar Singh while the Congress has fielded Saraswati Singh. The Chitrangi seat was won by Saraswati of the Congress party in the 2013 elections.

In Singrauli, the BJP has fielded Ramlallu Vaishyaw while the Congress has fielded Renu Shah. In 2013, the Singrauli seat was won by Ram Lallu Vaishy of BJP.

In Devsar, BJP’s Subhash Verma and Rambhajan Saket of the Congress party will have a tough competition. The Devsar seat was won by Rajendra Kumar of the BJP in 2013 elections.

Meanwhile, in Dhauhani, BJP’s Kunwar Singh Tekam and Congress’ Kamlesh Singh will have a close fight. In the 2013 polls, Kunwar Singh Tekam of the BJP had won the seat.

In Beohari, the BJP has fielded Sharad Koul while the Congress has fielded its candidate Rampal Singh. In the 2013 polls, Congress candidate Ram Pal Singh had won the seat.

In Jaisinghnagar, BJP’s Jaisingh Maravi and Congress candidate Dhyan Singh will have a tough battle. In the 2013 polls, BJP candidate Pramila Singh had won the seat by defeating Congress candidate Dhyan Singh.  Madhya Pradesh Assembly Elections 2018: Exit Polls Give Congress Edge Over BJP. 

As many as 2,899 candidates, including 1,094 independents are in the fray in Madhya Pradesh. BJP is contesting all the 230 seats, while the Congress has fielded 229 candidates, leaving one seat, Jatara in Tikamgarh district, for its ally -- Sharad Yadav's Loktantrik Janata Dal (LJD). The BSP has fielded 227 candidates, while the SP is contesting on 52 seats. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), contesting the Madhya Pradesh elections for the first time, has fielded 208 candidates.
