Bhopal, December 11: Elections to 230 seats of Madhya Pradesh assembly, including Chitrakoot, Raigaon, Satna, Nagod, Maihar and Amarpatan, were held on November 28. Counting of votes for the results of the Madhya Pradesh assembly elections will begin at 8 am. Stakes are high for the Congress in Chitrakoot, Satna, Nagod, Maihar and Amarpatan as it had bagged the seats in the 2013 polls. In Chitrakoot, the Congress pitted Nilanshu Chaturvedi against BJP's Surendra Gaharwar. The seat was previously won by Congress's Prem Singh. The Raigaon assembly seat witnessed a triangular contest between sitting BSP MLA Usha Chaudhary, BJP's Jugal Kishore Bagri and Congress nominee Kalpana Verma. In Satna, the BJP fielded its sitting legislator Shankar Lal Tiwari against Congress candidate Siddharth Kushwaha.

In its attempt to retain Nagod assembly seat, the Congress exuded confidence in its sitting MLA Yadvendra Singh, who faced an electoral challenge from BJP's Nagendra Singh. However, in Maihar, the Congress denied ticket to its sitting legislator Narayan Prasad and fielded Shrikant Chaturvedi against BJP's Narayan Tripathi. In Amarpatan, the grand old party re-nominated Rajendra Kumar Singh against Ram Khilawan Patel.

In Madhya Pradesh, the main contest is between the ruling BJP and Congress. A majority of exit polls have given the Congress an edge over the saffron party. The BJP had won 166 seats in the 2013 assembly polls, while the Congress and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) had bagged 58 and four seats respectively.
