he Congress has released the list of 12 candidates for the elections to the legislative assembly of Chhattisgarh. The party has announced the candidates for 12 constituencies reserved for scheduled tribes.

Raipur, October 18: The Congress has released the list of 12 candidates for the elections to the legislative assembly of Chhattisgarh. The party has announced the candidates for 12 constituencies reserved for scheduled tribes. The assembly elections in the state will be held in two phases. The elections in the first phases will be conducted on 18 constituencies in the northern part of the state on November 12. The counting of votes will take place on December 11, along with the rest four states – Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Rajasthan and Mizoram. The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) was put in place immediately by the Election Commission (EC) after the announcement of the election date. Under the MCC, the EC is authorised to regulate the activities of the government, apart from taking punitive action against political parties and individual aspirants.

The tenure of the 90-seat Chhattisgarh Assembly will end on January 5, 2019. In Chhattisgarh, it is a fierce three-way fight with Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati announcing an alliance with Janata Congress and announcing Ajit Jogi as the CM candidate. The Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party are fighting it out among themselves. Chief Election Commissioner Om Prakash Rawat on October 6, announced the schedule for the upcoming assembly elections 2018. The five states will go to polls between November 12 and December 7. Except for Chhattisgarh, single-phase voting would be held in all the other states.
