Hyderabad, May 23: Results for the Chennai Central Lok Sabha Constituency in Tamil Nadu has been declared by the Election Commission of India (ECI). Dayanidhi Maran of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party has won the seat. The counting of votes for the Chennai Central Lok Sabha Constituency began at 8 AM on Thursday, May 23. This is one of the 39 Parliamentary constituencies in Tamil Nadu which went to poll on April 18.

Earlier, this constituency was known as Madras Central. Tamil Nadu saw brisk filing of nominations on Monday, a day before nominations for the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections close. Voting in all the all the 39 parliamentary constituencies in Tamil Nadu will go to polls on April 18. The counting of votes will be done on May 23. Out of the 39 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu, the BJP to contest 5 seats while the AIADMK is contesting on 27 seats.

In the 2014 General Elections, the Voter-verified paper audit trail (VVPAT) system with EVMs was used for the first time in Chennai Central Lok SabhaLok Sabha constituency. In the 2014 polls, S. R. Vijayakumar of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) had defeated Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) candidate Dayanidhi Maran. Vijayakumar had won the Chennai Central seat with 3,33,296 votes.
