New Delhi, July 22: Chandrayaan 2, India's second mission to the moon, was launched by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Monday. Soon after the rocket Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle-Mark III (GSLV-Mk III), nicknamed 'Baahubali', injected Chandrayaan spacecraft into Earth's orbit, the Congress party attempted to take credit for the successful launch of the mission. Congress's tweet, however, did not go well with Twitterati who slammed the grand old party for "snatching credit from ISRO". Chandrayaan 2 Explained! Congratulating ISRO for the successful launch of Chandrayaan 2, Congress tweeted: "This is a good time to remember the visionary move of India's first PM Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru to fund space research through INCOSPAR in1962 which later became ISRO. And also Dr. Manmohan Singh for sanctioning the #Chandrayan2 project in 2008." Reacting to Congress's tweet, a Twitter user wrote: "Seriously .. this is no time to claim credit .. just congratulate @isro." "If everything was done by Nehru what did other PMs from Congress did in their tenure," another user remarked.

Soon after the launch, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted: "#Chandrayaan2 is unique because it will explore and perform studies on the south pole region of lunar terrain which is not explored and sampled by any past mission. This mission will offer new knowledge about the Moon."

"Efforts such as #Chandrayaan2 will further encourage our bright youngsters towards science, top quality research and innovation. Thanks to Chandrayaan, India's Lunar Programme will get a substantial boost. Our existing knowledge of the Moon will be significantly enhanced," PM Modi said in another tweet.
