Chandigarh, May 8: Actor Anupam Kher was left red-faced during a door-to-door campaign seeking votes for his wife Kirron Kher, the sitting BJP MP and candidate from Chandigarh Lok Sabha seat. The situation turned embarrassing for Kher after a voter quizzed him on the poll promises made by BJP in 2014.

Video of the incident, uploaded on social media, shows Kher leading a group of BJP workers in a door-to-door voter reachout campaign. On reaching a shop, the actor with pro-BJP views met an unexpected reaction from the shopkeeper. Akshay Kumar Citizenship Row: Anupam Kher Defends the Actor, Says 'You Don’t Need to Explain to Anybody'

Instead of being humbled by the presence of a celebrity at his shop, the man stood up holding the 2014 BJP election manifesto in his hand. He asked Kher to tell him which of these promises has been fulfilled.

Kher's wife Kirron was elected as a first-time MP in 2014, when she won the Chandigarh seat by more than 1 lakh votes.

The actor-politician faces a stringent challenge in this round of the elections, claim pollsters, who have predicted a wave in favour of the Capt Amarinder Singh-led Congress in Punjab.

Kirron is primarily being challenged in Chandigarh by Pawan Kumar Bansal, a Congress veteran who served as a Minister in the Manmohan Singh-led UPA government. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has fielded Harmohan Dhawan from the constituency.
