'Centre Did Not Pay Single Rupee in 50 Days of Massive Floods in Northern Karnataka', Says Former CM Siddaramaiah

Bengaluru, September 29: Congress leader and former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah lashed out at the Central government on Sunday and alleged that the Modi government has not been up to the mark when it comes to flood management. The former Karnataka CM criticised and said that the funding provided for flood relief in northern Karnataka has not been enough. The worst affected districts in North Karnataka floods were Dakshin Kannada, Udupi, Chikkamagluru, Hassan, Shivamogga, Malnad and Kodagu. "The central government has not paid a single rupee in 50 days of massive flood in northern Karnataka. Centre has failed to address the flood situation," said Siddaramaiah.

Due to incessant rains, road connectivity was disrupted in Shivamogga district of Northern Karnataka. The district also faced problems of power cuts in several areas. The death toll due to rain-related incidents reached close to 50. According to official data, since August 1, a total of 40 people have lost their lives while 14 people were missing.
Around 5,81,702 people were evacuated to safer places and 1,168 relief camps were operational. Due to the torrential rains in the southern state, a total of 17 districts and 2028 villages were severely affected while 28,325 houses have been damaged. Union Home Minister Amit Shah had also carried out an aerial survey of flood-affected areas in Karnataka and Maharashtra, and reviewed the relief operation being conducted to deal with the natural disaster.
