Central Universities Amendment Bill 2019 Passed in Lok Sabha, Govt Proposes 2 Varsities in Andhra Pradesh

The ruling dispensation on Friday succeeded in passing the Central Universities (Amendment) Bill, 2019, the Lok Sabha, proposing two Central Universities in Andhra Pradesh, one of which would be a Central Tribal University.

New Delhi, July 12: The ruling dispensation on Friday succeeded in passing the Central Universities (Amendment) Bill, 2019, the Lok Sabha. The Bill was introduced by the Union Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ in the Lower House of Parliament during the ongoing Monsoon Session of the parliament.

Earlier, after presenting the Bill in Lok Sabha, a discussion was held and fellow parliamentarians from Congres, YSRCP and BJD raised questions on the implementation of the Bill. On one side, K Suresh of Congress claimed that the percentage of expenditure on education had been reduced under the NDA government. While on the other side, YSRCP leader LS Krishna Devarayalu demanded that more funds be allocated towards the building of Central universities and research programmes in the universities. Also, BJD leader Bhartrihari Mahatab asked the reason for the shortage of faculty in new higher educational institutions.

As per the amendment bill - passed in the Lok Sabha - the Central government is mulling establishment of two Central Universities in Andhra Pradesh, one of which would be a Central Tribal University.
