Kolkata, February 3: Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Sunday extended support to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who sat on 'Save the Constitution' dharna against the Narendra Modi government. Gandhi alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi attacked institutions of the country. The Congress president tweeted, “I spoke with Mamata Di tonight and told her we stand shoulder to shoulder with her. The happenings in Bengal are a part of the unrelenting attack on India’s institutions by Mr Modi & the BJP. The entire opposition will stand together & defeat these fascist forces.”
Former Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav and Delhi CM also slammed the Modi government after the Central Bureau Investigation (CBI) officials visited Kolkata Police chief Rajeev Kumar's house. Other leaders of mahagathbandhan including Tejashwi Yadav, Chandrababu Naidu and Omar Abdullah also spoke to Banerjee over the issue. Earlier in the day, five CBI officials were detained by the Kolkata Police outside Kumar’s. later, they were released. The Chief Minister called for the dharna after high drama took place outside the residence of Kumar. Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers also staged protests in various area of West Bengal over the ongoing CBI issue. However, Interim CBI chief Nageshwar Rao accused Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar of destroying evidence in Chit fund case. The CBI will also approach the Supreme Court on Monday against the Kolkata Police.
