CAA-NRC Row: Govt Sources Release 'Fact Sheet' as Protests Against Citizenship Law Intensify Across The Nation

New Delhi, December 19: With nationwide protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act and National Register of Citizens (NRC) gaining momentum, government sources have released a fact sheet on frequently asked questions on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) on Thursday. In the tweet, shared by the new agency ANI, 13 questions have been answered and differences between CAA and NRC.

According to the latest tweet by the news agency, the first question stated the difference between CAA and NRC, while the second questions tries to clarify whether an Indian Muslim need to worry about CAA and NRC. Among other queries that the government sources tried to answer include exclusion in NRC on religious grounds, presentation of proofs of being Indian, how citizenship would be decided, whether parents' death certificate would be required for citizenship or ancestry dating back before 1971, among others.

Also, questions were raised if proving citizenship is easy then how 19 lakh people were excluded and how can an illiterate person can prove his citizenship? The last queries that the government sources tried to answer were the possibility of inclusion of transgender, atheist, adivasis, dalits, women and landless people. The new FAQs come at a time when the nationwide protests against NRC and CAA are taking place and people have demanded the government to take it back.
