Bengaluru, Juy 26: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state unit Chief BS Yediyurappa will take oath as the next CM of Karnataka at 6 pm. Earlier in the day, Yediyurappa staked claim to form the next government in the state and after meeting Governor Vajubhai Vala. The oath ceremony will take place three days after the Congress-Janata Dal Secular (JDS) government headed by HD Kumaraswamy lost trust vote in the Karnataka Assembly.
The coalition government received only 99 votes while the 105 legislators voting against the Congress-JDS alliance. Immediately after losing the trust vote, Kumaraswamy resigned from the post. Governor Vajubhai Vala had accepted the resignation and asked Kumaraswamy to act as caretaker CM. The BJP has 105 legislators and they have the support of an independent MLA, taking their number to 106 in the 224 member- assembly. Yesterday, Karnataka Assembly Speaker K R Ramesh Kumar disqualified rebel three MLAs including two legislators of the Congress till the end of the term of the house in 2023. The three MLAs suspended by Kumar are - Independent MLA R Shankar and Congress’ Ramesh Jarkiholi and Mahesh Kumathalli.
